Waterproofing project to restrict parking at Huntington LIRR station

Portions of the south parking garage at the Huntington Long Island Rail Road station will be closed beginning Aug. 17 for a waterproofing project, town officials announced Monday.
The entire roof level will remain closed for about 24 days. The waterproofing will move to the lower levels, one level at a time, requiring three-fourths of each level to be closed for about 24 days apiece as the work is undertaken.
The project is the last phase of the garage's rehabilitation. The town board in 2012 started a $2.5 million effort to begin repairing the town-owned, three-decade-old structure in what was to be a multiphase renovation project.
In June the town board approved a $1.5 million contract with Tonawanda-based Patterson-Stevens Inc. to waterproof the parking areas.
Commuters are advised to allow for extra time in finding a parking space and walking to the platform.
Spaces also are available in the surface parking lot on the west side of New York Avenue between Railroad and Church streets, officials said in a news release.
