Huntington man charged with DWI, baby in car
A Huntington man faces felony drunken-driving charges under Leandra's Law after a Second Precinct officer stopped him Sunday night with his 21-month-old daughter in his car as a passenger, Suffolk County police said.
Milton Vasquez, 27, was driving a 1998 Nissan Altima eastbound on Pulaski Road in Huntington Station at about 11:05 p.m. when he was pulled over by police.
Vasquez, of 73 Lafayette St., was driving erratically, according to a news release. While interviewing Vasquez, the officer determined he was intoxicated and arrested him, the release said.
His daughter was unharmed, police said.
Vasquez is charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child and endangering the welfare of a child, police said.
Under Leandra's Law, passed in November, 2009, the endangerment charge is a felony. The law was passed after the death of Leandra Rosado, 11, who was killed in an DWI accident after the minivan in which she was a passenger crashed on West Side Highway in Manhattan.
Vasquez is scheduled to be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Central Islip.
