Town of Huntington officials will hold a public hearing to consider buying up to 2.5 acres of property adjacent to William Byrne Park in East Northport.

The town’s Environmental Open Space and Park Fund Review Advisory Committee has had an interest in the property since 1999. The committee received a letter from the representative of the owner indicating there is a potential willing seller for parts of two wooded lots.

The committee has recommended that the town buy the property to expand William Byrne Park which is on Clay Pitts Road. If town officials decide to proceed, an appraisal will be completed to get a purchase price.

The public hearing will be held during the town board meeting Tuesday, July 12 at 2 p.m. at Town Hall, 100 Main St.
