Town of Huntington officials have approved a request by Commack Library District officials to be exempt from site plan review and town zoning code for a proposed expansion project.

Library officials want to expand the existing library building and alter the parking lot on the northwest corner of Commack Road and Hauppauge Road.

Officials in the town planning and environment department had found that area variances would be needed for front yard and corner lot side street yard building setbacks and for parking in the street side yard.

The board approved the exemption 5-0 at the May 10 town board meeting.
