Huntington sisters give birth hours apart

Sometimes wishes do come true. Sisters Victoria Creighton and Amanda Sturges can attest to that.
For as long as they can remember, the two had one common wish: to have children who would share a birthday.
That wish was granted Wednesday when Creighton, 35, delivered daughter Hannah Ryan and Sturges, 33, delivered son Spencer at Huntington Hospital - three hours apart.
"We didn't plan it," said Creighton, who has two other children with her husband, Michael. "It just happened." The births occurred at 3 p.m. (Hannah Ryan) and 6 p.m. (Spencer).
The sisters, both lifelong Huntington residents, already had much in common: They're both educators - Victoria teaches social studies in the Huntington school district, Amanda teaches math in the Massapequa school district - and they live less than a half-mile apart. They even married men who were best friends.
"I had been wishing for a long time that we would be pregnant together," Sturges said. "When she told me she was, it was very emotional. I was so happy."
Sturges and her husband, Paul, announced her pregnancy - her first - a little more than a week before her sister announced her own. Creighton said she already knew she was pregnant with her third child and held back her news so her sister could enjoy the limelight. "I was dying to tell her," Creighton said. "It was so hard to keep the news."
The sisters also shared the same doctor, often scheduling appointments one right after the other. When the doctor told them their due dates were three days apart, both said they hoped their dream could become reality.
Creighton's baby was due Friday and Sturges' on Monday.
On Wednesday, both went into labor.
