Two hurricanes far, far away are expected to make some waves this weekend on Long Island.

The residual effects of hurricanes Igor and Julia, making their way up the Atlantic Ocean more than 1,000 miles off the coast, are expected to be felt at ocean beaches in the form of swells of 6 feet to 8 feet - the largest from Moriches and Montauk, forecasters said. There's also a high risk of rip currents and a small craft warning.

The weekend weather promises to be less eventful than Thursday evening, with mild conditions and temperatures in the mid to upper 70s, said meteorologist John Murray of the National Weather Service.

Generally, Long Island will see mild weather through the weekend as autumn approaches Wednesday. Saturday will be mostly sunny with highs in the 70s. Saturday night will be mostly clear, then becoming cloudy with lows in the mid- to upper 50s. Sunday will be partly cloudy but a little warmer, with highs in the upper 70s and a slight chance of showers.
