The eastbound Long Island Expressway was briefly closed Tuesday morning because of ice at Exit 50 in Half Hollow Hills, the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department said.

The expressway was closed at Bagatelle Road at 4:51 a.m., then reopened an hour later, according to the state Department of Transportation. The area where the road iced was near a construction site.

Warmer temperatures Monday melted ice in Nassau and Suffolk, but subfreezing temperatures overnight led to patches of ice Tuesday, officials said.
