Icy roads cause accidents in Suffolk
Icy road conditions caused minor traffic accidents and a number of road closures in parts of Suffolk County Thursday evening, police departments said.
Street sanding trucks were deployed in several areas of the county, and there were multiple weather-related road closures, including Longwood Road at Wading River Road in Yaphank, and Belle Mead Road at Research Way in Setauket, Suffolk County police said.
There were icy conditions in some eastern Long Island towns, including some roads with black ice in Southampton. Motorists were advised by Southampton Town police to stay off the roadways unless absolutely necessary.
There were no reports of any unusually hazardous road conditions in Nassau County.
