Suffolk County police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths of two men whose bodies were discovered Monday at separate crime scenes in Coram.

Police were alerted to the first case in a 911 call shortly after 8 a.m. about a body found in a grassy area by the parking lot of the Brookwood Village garden apartment complex on Brookwood Drive, said Det. Lt. Kevin Beyrer, head of the homicide squad.

The victim, a man in his 20s who was shot, was discovered by a Brookwood resident, who contacted the superintendent, police said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said, and his name was withheld, pending notification of family.

Then about 9:20 a.m., a passing motorist reported finding a man inside a black 2000 Infinity Q45, parked on the side of Coram-Swezeytown Road, near Mount Sinai-Coram Road, police said.

The man was a "victim of violence," and detectives have been trying to gather clues as to how he died, Beyrer said.

Based on the time of the calls and the locations of the bodies -- nearly 2 miles apart -- detectives are looking into whether the two deaths are connected, Beyrer said.

Other details were not immediately available.

Police said anyone with information may call the homicide squad at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
