Infant boy found in Yaphank trash facility gets a name

The infant found dead at a Yaphank garbage transfer facility will be buried with the name Thomas Hope, said the official who is arranging the burial.
The name for the baby boy, whose parents are unknown, was chosen by the recycling worker who found the body and his co-workers, said Timothy Jaccard of AMT Children of Hope Foundation.
The name honors a late co-worker at the Winter Brothers transfer station in Yaphank, where the body was found Monday in a compressed block of garbage, Jaccard said. The baby is to be buried in Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury on Jan 23. Plans for a funeral service, likely to be held in a Yaphank church, have not been finalized.
The medical examiner said it appears that the infant was full term. Tests that may reveal if he was alive at birth were not complete Thursday, officials said.
