A man with a serious head injury was taken to a hospital after being found outside an elementary school in Port Jefferson Station early Wednesday, a Suffolk County police spokeswoman said.

The man, whom police identified only as being between 35 and 40 years old, was found at 12:01 a.m. by security personnel outside the Clinton Avenue Elementary School in the Comsewogue School District, the spokeswoman said.

The man was found behind the school building at 140 Clinton Ave. and was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center in serious condition, the spokeswoman said.
