Cops: Bay Shore woman crossing the street fatally struck by car

Suffolk County police's Vehicular Crime Unit is investigating a crash that killed a woman walking in Bay Shore on Tuesday night.
Police said Ishwer Wadhwa was crossing 5th Avenue when she was hit by a 2000 Nissan Maxima traveling south at 8:47 p.m.
The driver, Jerson Ventura, 32, of Wyandanch, drove to the Third Precinct to report the crash, police said in a news release.
Wadhwa, 66, of Bay Shore, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
Ventura's car was impounded for a safety check, police said.
No criminal charges are expected "at this point," a police spokeswoman said Wednesday morning.
