Islip Town Board OKs cleaning or boarding 12 homes
Twelve more homes throughout the Town of Islip are set to be boarded or cleaned up in the town's campaign against abandoned and dilapidated sites.
Bay Shore has the most properties on the list with five: homes on Spruce Street, Ridgeway Boulevard, Awixa Avenue, Richland Boulevard and North Thompson Drive. Central Islip has three, on Anne Lane, Peach Street and Calebs Path; and one each on Harbor Lane in Islip, Magua Street in Ronkonkoma, Pine Avenue in West Islip, and Sheridan Street in Brentwood.
Some of the homes were described as vacant and not secured, with overgrown vegetation along with litter and debris, creating a fire safety and health hazard.
"I know a lot of people out there are very happy that we're able to move forward," Supervisor Angie Carpenter said at the Islip Town Board meeting Tuesday, when the resolutions were passed.
The owners of some other properties responded to complaints from the town and those properties are now in compliance with town codes, an official said.
