Islip woman killed in 3-vehicle East Islip crash, cops say
An Islip woman was killed Saturday when the minivan she was driving was struck by a sport utility vehicle in East Islip, Suffolk police said.
Police said Maureen Bodkin, 62, was driving east on Union Boulevard in a 1998 Chevrolet Astro van about 11:55 a.m. when a 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Eileen Magee, 57, of Hicksville, entered the intersection southbound at Harwood Avenue and struck the van.
The van, which police said overturned several times, then struck a 2002 Chevrolet Prizm in a left-turn lane on Union driven by Margaret Lanigan, 81, of Islip. She was not harmed.
Bodkin, of Maple Street, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Magee, of Arnold Street, was taken by ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with minor injuries, police said.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
Police said the three vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Third squad detectives, at 631-854-8352, are investigating.
