Dawn Pierce, 21, of Terrace Road, Bayport, was charged with driving while intoxicated. She was admitted to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries, police said.
The victim, identified as Jacqueline Grawunder, 24, of Yaphank, was pronounced dead at the scene. A person who answered the phone at her home declined to comment.
Two back-seat passengers, Alexander Rikimoto, 21, of Shirley, and Michael Rempe, 22, of Franklin Square, also were taken to Stony Brook hospital for treatment of injuries that police said were not life-threatening.
The crash happened shortly after 2:30 a.m. when the vehicle went out of control while heading south on Wading River Hollow Road. It slammed into a tree about 100 yards south of Scenic Hills Drive, police said.
