A 61-year-old Central Islip man was killed Monday morning when he turned in front of a pickup truck on West Jericho Turnpike in Smithtown, Suffolk County police said.

Police said James Poallo was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the pickup truck, identified by police as Guillermo Linares, 46, of Huntington, was uninjured. A passenger in his truck, a 2001 Ford F 350, was taken to Stony Brook hospital with minor injuries.

The crash occurred about 8 a.m., police said.

Police said Poallo, in a 2002 Hyundai Sonata, was headed west on Jericho when he attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot -- and was struck by the eastbound pickup. Linares was not charged, police said.

Police said the investigation is continuing and are asking anyone with information to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
