Fire burns through Jamesport home, does heavy damage

Dozens of firefighters fought a two-alarm blaze in a Northville home Tuesday night, authorities said.
The fire left the Pier Avenue home's attached garage gutted and damaged two vehicles and the residence, Jamesport Fire Chief Gary Faucon said.
The fire does not appear to be suspicious, Riverhead police said in a news release. The blaze's cause is under investigation.
The fire department was called at 7:21 p.m. for a reported structure fire, Faucon said.
He arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming through the garage, with flames going into the second floor of the home.
Firefighters were forced to fight the blaze from outside the home, Faucon said. The garage roof collapsed after it had been burned through and there was initially the possibility of a brush fire after a tree went up in flames.
The fire was under control within 20 minutes, he said.
About 75 firefighters from Jamesport, Riverhead, Mattituck and Cutchogue responded to the residence, Faucon said.
The homeowner suffered a slight burn to his arm but refused treatment, he said. No firefighters were hurt.
