Riverhead police charge man in assault, robbery in car
A Flanders man has been charged with stealing a woman's cellphone and attacking her inside her car earlier this month, Riverhead Police said Tuesday.
Police said Jamie R. Xiquin-Valdez, 26, was arrested about 1 p.m. Tuesday after an investigation. Police said they had responded to a 911 call on Oct. 3 after a cellphone was stolen from a woman on McDermott Avenue in Riverhead.
Xiquin-Valdez has been charged with one count of third-degree robbery and one count of first-degree sex abuse, both D felonies, as well as one count of unlawful imprisonment, an A misdemeanor, police said. Police did not give more information about the incident on Oct. 3.
Xiquin-Valdez, of Flanders Road, was processed and arraigned at Riverhead Justice Court, where bail was set at $25,000, police said.
