Jean Edy Silaire of West Babylon dies in I-81 crash, cops say
New York State Police are investigating an accident that took the life of a West Babylon man who was behind the wheel of a tractor-trailer when it crashed Friday on Interstate 81 in upstate Lafayette, officials said.
Jean Edy Silaire, 38, was driving a 2016 Hino flatbed truck north on the roadway about 10 miles south of Syracuse “when he lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons” around 6:30 a.m., according to a news release issued by the police.
The truck overturned, and while rolling several hundred feet, Silaire was ejected from the cab, police said. The flatbed had entered the median and came to a rest on the guide rail.
Silaire was taken by ambulance to SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse with severe head trauma and a broken right arm. He died at the hospital, police said.
