Police: Man dies after being shot outside home in Shirley
Suffolk County police are investigating the death of a 23-year-old Shirley man who was shot outside a home late Friday night.
Officers from Suffolk's Seventh Precinct responded to a report of shots fired at about 11:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Auborn Avenue.
The shooting victim, Jamar Lamar, 23, was taken by a private vehicle to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where he was later pronounced dead.
Suffolk police could not immediately provide details on the circumstances of the shooting.
A sobbing woman who answered the door at Lamar's home with two young girls by her side identified herself as the victim's mother, but declined to comment.
Less than two miles from the scene of the fatal shooting, she could be heard crying from across the street of her yellow, one-story home on Oak Avenue.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact the Homicide Squad at 631-854-6394 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
