Jet makes emergency landing at MacArthur
A US Airways jet flying from Philadelphia to Islip made an emergency landing at Long Island MacArthur Airport Tuesday night due to problems with the plane's flaps, officials said.
The jet landed shortly after 11 p.m. "without incident" and there were no injuries, said airport spokeswoman Catherine Green.
The plane, US Airways Flight 3630, a 50-seat commuter jet, was en route to Islip, after leaving Philadelphia at 10 p.m., when it encountered "some type of a problem," said Green.
Kathleen Bergin, a spokeswoman in Washington D.C. for the Federal Aviation Administration said the problem was related to the aircraft's flaps.
Airport officials put out a Level Two mutual aid call, low on the emergency spectrum, to local fire departments to respond, Green said.
Islip Supervisor Phil Nolan confirmed no injuries had been reported.
