A jogger was killed Thursday morning when she was struck by a car on a wooded stretch of road in Greenlawn, Suffolk police said.

Andrea Olsen, 42, of Greenlawn, was running alone on Manor Road when she was hit by an Infiniti sedan at 6:28 a.m., according to Det. Lt. Thomas O'Heir of the Second Squad.

The driver, Scott Silverman, 47, of Huntington, remained at the scene. He later told detectives he did not see Olsen before the collision, O'Heir said. Silverman, who had been driving alone southbound to work, was not ticketed.

Police said it was not immediately clear exactly where Olsen was when she was struck, but preliminary evidence suggested she was on or near the white line on the west side of Manor Road, about a half mile south of Little Plains Road. There is a slight curve and the shoulder narrows where she was struck, O'Heir said. There is a dirt path next to the road and a 2 1/2-foot-wide area of grass, police said, but it did not appear she was on it when she was hit.

The passenger-side front and side of Silverman's car was damaged. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
