The driver of a van making a left turn on a street in East Patchogue on Monday afternoon sustained serious injuries when an SUV crashed into his vehicle, Suffolk police said.

Jordan Tyre, 21, of Bellport was driving a 1995 Ford van south on Sills Road at about 5 p.m. when he attempted the left turn onto North Dunton Avenue, police said.

A 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe heading north on Sills Road then struck the van, police said.

Tyre was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where he was listed in serious condition early Tuesday morning, police said.

The driver of the SUV, Michael Arce, 38, of Holbrook, as well as an adult passenger in his vehicle, were also transported to the East Patchogue hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries, police said.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing.
