Riverhead man out on bail in Leandra's Law case

A Riverhead man was released from the Suffolk County Jail on $500 cash bail Sunday after being arrested and charged with drunken driving in Southampton with his 14-year-old daughter in the car.

Jose M. Lopez, 31, of 193 Phillips Ave., was charged under Leandra's Law with aggravated driving while intoxicated and endangering the welfare of a child.

State police pulled the car Lopez was driving over on County Road 104 shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday and found him to be intoxicated, police said.

Further investigation by State Police officers found that Lopez's passenger was his 14-year-old daughter.

Lopez was arraigned at the Southampton Town Justice Court.
