KKK pamphlets found on cars in East Patchogue, cops say
East Patchogue residents and hospital employees found Ku Klux Klan pamphlets on their vehicles early Christmas morning, Suffolk County police said.
Employees of Brookhaven Memorial Hospital called police about 1 a.m. Friday to report KKK materials had been left on vehicles in the hospital’s parking lot.
More were found on vehicles in the parking lot of a nearby Heatherwood apartment complex, police said.
Hate Crime Unit detectives were investigating but the incident does not appear criminal, a police spokesman said.
Long Island residents have reported dozens of KKK pamphlets appearing outside homes in Hampton Bays, Shirley and Babylon since July 2014.
A Hampton Bays man was arrested by Southampton Town police in April for attaching three KKK fliers to a Hampton Bays bank, but had denied involvement in any prior incidents. He was charged with illegally distributing a handbill but pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of failing to maintain his property in August.
