Man slashed teen in neck, fired gun during fight at North Babylon gym, police said

Suffolk police arrested and charged a Wyandanch man after he slashed a teenager and later fired a handgun inside a North Babylon LA Fitness, authorities said Wednesday.
No one was hit when Noah Haynes, 18, fired a shot at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday after fighting with the 17-year-old boy at the Deer Park Avenue gym, Suffolk police said in a news release.
About a half-hour before, Haynes and the teen had engaged in a verbal confrontation, first inside the gym, and then in the parking lot after employees asked them to leave, according to police.
The confrontation turned physical in the parking lot before Haynes left in a vehicle and the boy returned to the LA Fitness, police said.
Haynes eventually came back and slashed the teenager on the neck with a metal object in the locker room and pointed the handgun at him, according to the release.
The two left the locker room and resumed fighting in the gym area. The victim yelled to others in the gym that Haynes had a gun, police said, adding three people intervened and held Haynes down until police arrived. Haynes fired one shot during the struggle, police said.
He was charged with second-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, menacing, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Haynes was held overnight at the First Precinct and scheduled for arraignment Wednesday at First District Court in Central Islip.
