Suffolk GOP chairman John Jay LaValle seeks to have Legis. Dan Losquadro(R-Shoreham) challenge Democratic Assemb. Marc Alessi. LaValle confirmed discussions with Losquadro but said he isn't pressing for a quick decision - party designations are due in May. LaValle believes Losquadro could capitalize on voter unhappiness with Albany. The party chairman said Alessi criticized LIPA when George Pataki was governor, but has been mum since Democrats took over. Losquadro said he "would not rule it out" but must discuss it with his wife. Said Alessi (D-Shoreham): "I've never focused on who my opponent is. But especially this year with the fiscal crisis I want to just focus on the job."
