Greenport man killed in Southold crash

A Greenport man was killed Saturday night after turning into oncoming traffic on Middle Road, Southold Village police said.

Lawrence Damiani, 84, and his wife, Janice Damiani, 83, pulled out from Kennys Road, where they were hit by a vehicle driven by Muhammad Asjad, 33, of Riverhead, police said. Asjad was headed west at the time of the crash, at 7:06 p.m., and the Damiani vehicle failed to yield right of way, police said.

The Damianis were airlifted by Suffolk County police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, where Lawwrence Damiani died.

Greenport Rescue took Asjad to Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport.
