Largely out of the public eye for the past month, Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy will field questions from reporters at two separate news conferences Wednesday in Commack and Hauppauge.

The two-term county executive has not held a news conference since announcing March 24 that he would not seek re-election and would turn over his $4.1-million campaign fund to District Attorney Thomas Spota to end a probe of his fundraising.

On April 1, Levy did conduct one-on-one interviews with Newsday and News 12 Long Island. But in the past month, his reactions to news events have come in the form of prepared statements from his press aides.

He has also made several public appearances, including at a youth movie event at the Patchogue Theater, but he did not have to field questions at the venues.

One news conference Wednesday morning will trumpet construction of a natural-gas fueling facility for county vehicles at public works yards in Commack and Westhampton. Two hours later, Levy will hold a news conference on the donation of 160 used county BlackBerry smartphones to four groups that combat domestic violence.

A Levy spokesman did not return calls Tuesday night for comment.
