Police in the Town of Newburgh said Friday that a man who robbed the Orange County Trust earlier this week looks a lot like the man wanted for recent bank robberies in Nassau and Suffolk.

"The MO, the physical description, it looks like him," Lt. Michael Clancy of the Town of Newburgh Police Department said Friday.

However, Clancy said his detectives are having trouble downloading the robber's image from the Orange County bank's surveillance cameras.

"We can see it plainly on the surveillance cameras, but when we try to download the picture, we lose a lot of resolution," Clancy said.

The gray-haired bank robber was armed with a black handgun when he robbed the bank Wednesday, getting away with an undisclosed amount of money, police said. The robber was stocky, about 55-65 years old and 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 9 inches tall, Clancy said.

Clancy said the robber looked very similar to surveillance images released by Suffolk County police of a man who robbed an East Northport bank on June 30.

Suffolk County police had described the gunman as being 50 to 60 years old, having a stocky build and about 5 feet, 8 inches or 5 feet, 9 inches tall.

Clancy said his detectives also suspected that it was the same robber who hit at least one bank in Manhasset within the past two months.
