A Long Island woman hospitalized after she was rescued from a Connecticut lake during a triathlon Saturday will likely return home Tuesday, an event spokesman said.

The woman, who is in her 50s, was pulled from Candlewood Lake in the first leg of the Housatonic Valley Sprint Triathlon, race coordinator Sean Morits said.

She apparently was struggling with her breathing and was rushed by ambulance to Danbury Hospital, Morits said.

"She's fine now," Morits said Tuesday morning. "She was getting oxygen, but was in good spirits yesterday."

The woman's family asked that she not be identified.

Morits said that a representative from the Housatonic Valley Sports Organizing Committee was at the hospital with the woman and her husband Monday.

"This is the second time it's happened to her, so I think she's done with triathlons," Morits said. "I think she's a little embarrassed by it all."

Morits said that nearly 300 competitors were entered in the triathlon - a quarter-mile swim, 12-mile bike ride and 3-mile run. The event was held about 15 miles north of Danbury.
