A Brentwood woman was seriously injured Saturday morning when her car flipped as she attempted to enter the Long Island Expressway near the border of Islip Town and Smithtown, according to Suffolk County police.

Cindy Membreno-Reyes, 35, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe around 9 a.m. when the car went off the road and overturned on the entrance ramp between westbound Exit 53 and Express Drive North, according to police.

A police spokesperson said the entrance ramp was closed for a few hours, but has since reopened.

Commack Volunteer Ambulance personnel took Membreno-Reyes to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore with serious injuries. Police did not provide any further details on her condition when contacted by Newsday.

Suffolk police are still investigating the accident. Anyone with information about the crash can call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
