A three-vehicle rush-hour crash on the Long Island Expressway between exits 55 and 56 sent three adults and a preteen to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Suffolk police said.
The stretch of road was reopened around 8:20 p.m.; it had been closed for about three hours.
"There were no serious physical injuries; they all were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where they are being treated," a spokeswoman said.
The preteen, a passenger, is a 12-year-old boy, she said.
