Bay Shore man dies in Long Island Expressway crash, police say

A man died Saturday on the Long Island Expressway after losing control of his 2015 Honda CR-V and crashing into a cement pillar near eastbound Exit 49 in Melville, Suffolk police said.
Jhonny Barros-Chauca, 47, of Bay Shore, was pronouced dead at the scene, located near Half Hollow Road, police said.
The accident occurred around 6 a.m. The highway was closed nearly four hours between Exits 49 and 50, reopening around 10:15 a.m., police said.
The Honda was impounded for safety checks.
