Two westbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway near Brentwood have been reopened after Suffolk police and Brentwood firefighters responded to a four-car crash that shut down part of the highway there for about two hours Tuesday evening.

The 6:13 p.m. accident was reported in the westbound lanes of the highway near Exit 53 in Brentwood, police said.

Police dispatched a helicopter to the scene and airlifted a man to a hospital to be treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Police said the investigation is continuing.
