A Manorville man likely had a medical emergency before he crashed his vehicle on the Long Island Expressway Tuesday and died, Suffolk police said.
The driver, William Thomas, 60, was traveling west in a 2014 Jeep Patriot when it veered off the expressway in Manorville and overturned onto the shoulder at about 4:50 p.m., just east of Exit 70, police said.
Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives believe he suffered a medical event before the crash, police said. His passenger, a Riverhead woman, was not injured.
The Jeep was impounded for a safety check, police said.
The crash shut down the westbound LIE until about 8:30 as Seventh Precinct detectives gathered information.
