A Suffolk County Police Highway Patrol Bureau officer traveling west on the Long Island Expressway on Saturday morning was injured when he apparently lost control of his vehicle and struck a concrete barrier, authorities said.

According to Suffolk County police, the officer was taken by Lakeland Rescue to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the accident happened at about 7 a.m. and caused the HOV and left lanes from Exits 60 to 59 to be closed for about two hours as authorities responded to and investigated the scene.
