A man was struck and killed by a vehicle in Islandia Monday night, closing two nearby exits on the Long Island Expressway that remained shut down until hours later, Suffolk police said.

Carlo M. Guercia, 46, of Massapequa, was on foot in the HOV lane of westbound Long Island Expressway, near exit 58, when he was hit by a 2019 Honda Odyssey at 7:17 p.m., police said.

Police said Guercia was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda was not hurt, police said.

Exits 57 and 58 westbound were closed until about 11:30 p.m., police said.
