The westbound Long Island Expressway was reopened after being shut down for about an hour in the Holtsville area due to a multiple-car crash that injured several people Monday evening, Suffolk police said.

At least three cars crashed about 5:15 p.m. at Exit 62, Nicolls Road, leading to the closure, which stretched to Exit 61, police said. The lanes were reopened about 6:05 p.m., police said.

Police did not immediately have other details, including how the crash happened and extent of injuries.

But authorities were still at the scene about 7 p.m., clearing away debris and finishing their investigation, police said.
