Suffolk County police and fire officials are investigating a truck fire and separate car accident during which three people were injured Sunday on the Long Island Expressway in Medford.

According to a Holtsville Fire Department report, the truck fire occurred shortly before 12:30 p.m. on the right shoulder on the eastbound side of the roadway between Exits 62 and 63.

The crash happened soon after, when one car ran into the back of another while police diverted traffic off the expressway because of the truck fire, the report said.

A total of four people were in the two cars and three were taken to a hospital for treatment, the report said. The driver of the truck was not injured.

There was no other information immediately available.
