Lindenhurst Village forming architectural review board

The Village of Lindenhurst is forming an architectural review board.
Mayor Tom Brennan last week announced the formation of the board. While no members have been chosen, the board is expected to be made up of local officials, community and business leaders.
The intention, Brennan said, is to have a more uniform look for the village as far as architecture and aesthetics such as awnings. He said it’s expected that the village’s Business Improvement District will be involved in the financing of it.
“We’ve been thinking about it for quite some time,” Village Clerk-Treasurer Shawn Cullinane said. “It’s part of the overall process of revitalizing the downtown.”
Cullinane chairs the Lindenhurst Economic Development Committee, which was formed in late 2014 in an effort to look at ways to revitalize the village’s downtown business district, which has a high vacancy rate. The committee is currently reviewing a village-wide survey they conducted on the perceived strengths and weaknesses of the business district.
