A disabled train that caused delays and cancellations during the morning commute Thursday on the Babylon branch of the Long Island Rail Road has been cleared, railroad officials said.
However, the 8:45 a.m. train from Hempstead to Atlantic Terminal was operating almost 20 minutes late -- after officials said it experienced equipment trouble in Floral Park.
The problems affected westbound service all morning on the railroad, leading to more than 10 cancellations and causing delays of up to 20 minutes on the Babylon branch. Service on the Montauk branch and to the City Zone also were affected, the railroad said in a statement.
At least eight of the trains were canceled by 7:45 a.m., the railroad said.
Among those canceled trains included: the 5:41 a.m. train from Babylon to Penn Station; the 6:15 a.m. train from Babylon to Atlantic Terminal; the 6:26 a.m. train from Massapequa Park; the 6:57 a.m. train from Freeport; the 6:59 a.m. train from Massapequa Park to Atlantic Terminal; the 7:11 a.m. train from Massapequa Park to Penn; the 7:26 a.m. train from Wantagh; and the 7:43 a.m. train from Merrick.
In addition, the railroad said all westbound trains from Babylon stopped at Jamaica station during the delay situation.
