Authorities are investigating the death of a Holbrook man who was struck and killed by a Long Island Rail Road train early Wednesday west of the Ronkonkoma station.
Salvatore Arena, a spokesman for the rail service, said Metropolitan Transportation Authority police are withholding the name of the man, 45, pending notification of next of kin.
According to Arena, the man was not authorized to be on the tracks and was hit at about 2:45 a.m. near Ocean Avenue, just west of the station.
"It was the 1:20 a.m. train from Penn Station to Ronkonkoma, and when it got to about Ocean Avenue it struck a trespasser," he said.
The train that hit the person was delayed about two hours, and power to the tracks was turned off between Central Islip and Ronkonkoma during the investigation, he said.
There were delays on the line but only one involving a westbound train during the morning rush hour, the LIRR said.
