LIRR: Man survives after hit by train on Ronkonkoma line

A man lying on the tracks west of the Riverhead station was hit Tuesday afternoon by a westbound train, and survived with non-life-threatening injuries, police and LIRR officials said.

Riverhead Town police said the man “was apparently intoxicated and was laying on the tracks at the time of the incident.”

The man, who was struck in the area east of Mill Road crossing and west of the Riverhead station, was transported by helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, an MTA spokeswoman said.

The 12:42 p.m. train from Greenport due in Ronkonkoma at 2:06 p.m. was delayed as a result of the incident, the Long Island Rail Road said on its website.

Bus service was provided to transport the delayed passengers, the LIRR said.
