A person died after being struck by a Long Island Rail Road train Saturday night west of Brentwood, causing service suspensions, MTA officials said.

“The 7:12PM train from Penn due Ronkonkoma at 8:35PM is being delayed west of Brentwood after striking an unauthorized person on the tracks near the station,” a tweet from the LIRR’s official Twitter handle read.

Late Saturday night the MTA told Newsday in an email the person struck had died.

Service was suspended between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma in both directions after the person was hit, the LIRR said.

Shortly before 11 p.m., the LIRR tweeted that service had been restored in both directions.

"Customers can anticipate residual delays of up to 20 minutes as trains operate at a reduced speed through the area as a precaution," the agency said.

The victim was not identified.
