A person was struck and killed by a Long Island Rail Road train west of Southold on Monday morning, officials said, halting service east of Ronkonkoma in both directions for a few hours.

Trains resumed running in both directions at about 11:34 a.m., the railroad said.

It had announced the suspension on Twitter approximately two hours before that, adding buses had been ordered to carry passengers.

No further information was immediately available.
