LIRR reports normal sked; some delays

The Long Island Rail Road said it anticipated operating a normal weekday morning schedule Tuesday despite the bad weather. A few trains reported delays.

Two delays affected the Montauk / Babylon branch early Tuesday. Others affected the Port Jefferson branch. It was not immediately clear if the delays were weather-related.

Officials said the 8:37 a.m. train from Babylon, due in Penn Station at 9:50 a.m., was delayed because of an earlier disruption.

The 8:34 a.m. train from Port Jefferson, scheduled to arrive in Hicksville at 9:40 a.m., was canceled because of equipment trouble. The 9:10 a.m. train was adding stops in Cold Spring Harbor, Syosset and Hicksville as a result.

Earlier, the 7:12 a.m. train from Speonk, due to arrive at Hunterspoint Avenue at 9:11 a.m., was 30 minutes late because of equipment problems, the railroad said. As a result, it was making added stops at Mineola, Hicksville and Long Island City, which was expected to cause "further delays," officials said.

The 7:31 a.m. train from Speonk to Babylon also was delayed because of a train with equipment trouble, officials said. That train had been scheduled to arrive in Babylon at 8:31 a.m. It was not clear how long it would be delayed.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority advised all riders to "listen to announcements and to take extra care when traveling" Tuesday.

"Stay clear of the platform edges, use handrails on staircases and walk carefully when entering or exiting stations and boarding or leaving trains because of slippery conditions," the statement read.
