Trains moving in both directions between Ronkonkoma and Hicksville experienced delays of up to 25 minutes early Monday because of signal trouble, the Long Island Rail Road said.

At least two westbound trains reported significant delays before 7 a.m. because of signal issues west of Ronkonkoma station, the commuter service said.

The 6:56 a.m. train from Ronkonkoma due at the Atlantic Terminal at 8:17 a.m. was delayed 24 minutes.

The rail service reported at 7:43 a.m. in an alert to customers that trains departing Ronkonkoma were on or close to schedule. There were "residual delays of 20-25 minutes for westbound service" because of the previous signal trouble, the email alert said.

The 5:30 a.m. train from Greenport due in Ronkonkoma at 6:53 a.m. was 21 minutes late because of congestion caused by signal trouble, the LIRR said.

Two other westbound trains scheduled to leave Ronkonkoma for Penn Station around 7 a.m. also reported delays.
