Train service east of the Brentwood station on the Ronkonkoma branch was suspended Saturday night while authorities repaired damage to the tracks from fire, a Long Island Rail Road spokeswoman said.

Service was restored early Sunday. Before, the railroad deployed shuttle buses between Brentwood, Central Islip and Ronkonkoma, spokeswoman Susan McGowan said.
About 1,500 commuters were affected, she said.

The railroad got reports of a brush fire next to the tracks about 6:45 p.m. She didn’t know if the fire was suspicious.

She said earlier reports that the fire was in a transformer belonging to the Long Island Power Authority were incorrect.
