LIRR: Service briefly delayed, package left at station cleared
Service was suspended in both directions between Brentwood and Ronkonkoma for about 75 minutes during Wednesday’s morning rush hour as police investigated the report of a suspicious package at the Central Islip station, the Long Island Rail Road said.
A spokesman for the commuter service said Suffolk County police responded, inspected a backpack that was left unattended at the station and determined it was not a threat.
Service was restored about 10 a.m.
The report of a suspicious package at the station came in at 8:45 a.m., with service suspended on the Ronkonkoma branch shortly after, spokesman Aaron Donovan said.
